The GEAR Foundation has received a letter from the National Gay Task Force in New York City stating that Cleveland's gay community has the proud honor of being the only gay group in the country to own its own building. Located at 2641 West 14th Street, Cleveland, the building houses the Gay Community Center as well as a furniture store, a neighborhood social service center, a dentist's office, and five residential apartments.
The Committee on Lesbian Gay Male Concerns announced its new co-chairs at the 70th annual convention of the National Council of Teachers in Cincinnati in November. They are Dr. Susan J. About 200 demonstrators were removed from an open house at the University of San Francisco. They were protesting the university's exclusion of gay and lesbian groups from the Catholic university's law school catalogue. The protesters included six members of the Sisterhood of Perpetual Indulgence who chanted: "2-4-6-8, are you sure your

About 23% of San Francisco's popuiation is gay according to census officials. According to the 1980 survey, the city has about 150,000 gay residents. However, one official said the figure may be as high as 200,000. Bay Area Reporter

OSU Gay Alliance, in cooperation with OSU Women's and OSU Counseling and Consultation Services has finished writing a pamphlet designed to educate OSU dormitory residents about their lesbian and gay friends and roommates. The Office of Residences and Dining Halls is also sponsoring the pamphlet and will print copies for every Resident Advisor on campus. Music By Womin, an event sponsored by the Lake West YWCA in cooperation with PC Associates, will be held on Saturday, March 28, 1981 at the Metropolitan YWCA, 3201 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, from 7:30 pm to midnight. The cost is $2.50 (more if you can, less if you can't). The evening will include local women artists and good dance music for women only in a "chemical free" environment (no drugs or alcohol). Free child care will be provided as well as access for the handicapped.

Police in Covington, Kentucky. which is across the Ohio River from Cincinnati, have begun to crackdown on boy prostitution by wiring 13-year olds for sound to catch men allegedly soliciting the youths. Fifteen men, including a local police chief, priest, and school teacher, have been arrested for prostitution and unlawful transaction with a minor. Gay Community News

In Des Moines, Iowa the National News Council rapped CBS News' "Gay Power, Gay Politics" special of April 26. The Council criticized the network for inserting non-existent applause into a film of a speech by San Francisco mayor Dianne Feinstein. It concluded: "By concentrating on certain flamboyant behavior, the program tended to reinforce stereotypes. The program also exaggerated political concessions to gays and made those concessions appear as threats to public morals and decency." Gay Life.
Robert Patrick's play Fog was produced by a new Boston theater group, Triangle, founded by David Hough. Fog, one of three one-act plays on Triangle's first bill in November, caused some controversy in gay Boston, and was even dubbed "sexist" by critic Arthur Friedman. In Patersborough, Ontario, David Ramsden, the self-confessed leader of the local Committee Against Racism and Tackiness (CARET). faces seven charges of theft. He admits he "liberated" two black jockeys, a black lantern holder, four flamingos, two gnomes, a grey rabbit. three swans, Snow White and all seven dwarfs as an act of "social comment" from lawns. A Toronto columnist hailed his efforts writing: "There are several streets in Scarborough that would be aesthetically improved by a man of his vision." Body Politic.
"Christians vs. the Lions"-those are the code words security officers used for the recent fifth annual Southeastern Conference of Lesbians and Gay Men in Memphis, Tennessee. The 500-600 conferees ("lions") met 200300 Bible-carrying protesters ("Christians") outside. When the Christians sang "Lead me, Jesus." the lions joined in.
